Someone Tempted Fate

During one of Colorado Springs's lightning storms over the summer. I can't look at it without imagining the guy who just had a really bad end to a really bad day after saying something like "May God strike me down with lightning if I'm lying".

Aw, me too! I loved this one so much because i knew i was the only person that ever got this photo and no one ever would again. I was up on gold camp and there was about 5 other photographers up there, and for some reason, i was the only one that was set up and ready when this happened. It was the best bolt of the whole storm. I think that was one of those few great days when im not going: "am i really any good at this...?" ya, thats why lightening photos are so wonderful, its the only one ever, every time. Your shot is brilliant too!.. gonna go post there right now.

Either some guy dared the gods, or he put 20" rims on a Ford Escort.

Had to look it up in the EXIF, been a while. At the time i had a Canon pro1 Id bought it when the only affordable DSLR was the 6mp rebel and didnt get around to upgrading it untill just a few months ago. So the setting sounds wierd in terms of an slr. but: 28mm (7.2mm in exif), f/2.4 (not sure whats thats equal to, but it acted like f/5-8, youd think if it was a true 2.4 it woulda be more blury or brighter, i was going off of what it looked like in the LCD not really paying attention to the settings - ya, i know, thats bad, i was in a hurry) 15sec shutter, center weighted average, manual mode. I pretty much just set the camera and tripod up in a good spot found the brightness of the city lights that i liked best for the length exposure i wanted and started shooting 15sec exposures one after the other for like and hour. I got maybe 5 really good ones, one with 3 different bolts in 15 seconds. But this was the best. This was one of the days that a consumer camera beat the other guys out there with really expensive kits, i think :)
