A self-described former yuppy, Norwegian Knut and his wife Camilla, had quit their jobs to sail from Norway through the Northwest Passage, along a route charted long ago by a Norwegian explorer.
These waters become choked with ice in the winter, making it urgent to find a safe harbor and wait for the spring thaw.
We met here in the Inuit village of Arctic Bay, Nunavut, where they'd bided their 2nd winter (their boat is frozen in the ice behind Knut). Their 1st winter was spent near Greenland.
