A truly unexpected gift, to hear and meet this bird, living alone on a patch of dead lawn at a Veteran's Administration Clinic. State authorities can't seem to trap it. I understand from Audubon locally that a pair were discovered at St. Andrews State Park. It has no fear of people and the staff are very protective of it. So I borrowed the iPhone and got about 80 shots, including a video of it finding food and jumping into the air. I believe that behavior is to startle whatever is in the turf so it can eat it. It's very funny to watch. I believe it's a hen. It's been on the property for a year, apparently very savvy living near a busy beach community with high traffic areas. It is not afraid of being approached. It's not every day you meet such an interesting character. I could have stayed all day.
