I did a portrait series of my late mother one evening in our upstairs bedroom, in 1995 ... we were crowded for space but I set up a background anyway that I tacked on the wall and used a few floodlights that were very hot to work with plus bright:)..I used Kodak Vericolor 160 film which was reported to be good for portraiture. I was taking a basic photography course at the time just to learn techniques of shooting better pictures for a hobby and it had assignments with units that were critiqued by a teacher student advisor which required sending our work to him by snail mail. I remember not using this picture to be critiqued but another one instead. Since then I prefer this portrait as my favorite because of the vivid colors she wore and the pose... Mother agreed to be my model for the assignment while my late parents were visiting us for a couple of days during that time.. Mom rarely wore makeup in reality and if she did, it was just a touch of lipstick. I wanted to glamorize her for the portraits so I applied makeup on her and styled her hair.. In years past mother loved to dress up in bright colors at Easter time when she played the organ at church.... and for me this portrait signified an Easter moment for my beautiful mother who was 86 years old when I did the photo sessions of her. I feel blessed that I have these happy memories preserved of the past when I had the opportunity to do so. I loved my mother and admired her for the lady that she was. When life is over it is the good memories that count most to be remembered.

Best viewed in light box! Thank you!!!

Thank you all for your kind words...My mother would have been so pleased to read your
compliments...I really think she had fun, dressing up for these portraits and love the little
whimsical smile on her face ...I didn't tell her how to pose...She was just a natural...I appreciate that she showed one of her hands which were accomplished with her music, and with her art! .
