She lifted her head high
As tho' eyes were witnessing
Something flying in the sky...
Maybe ears attuned listening
To the crying of a big hawk
Perhaps e'en an eagle flock

Ready to snatch a woodpecker
For whom she must escape
Or be the catch of a predator!

Something definitely caught the female red bellied woodpeckers attention here as she barely moved a muscle perching over the seed bowl and stayed in that same position for awhile...Wild song birds sadly do not always live a long life and have learned to be cautious for good reason. However, in spite of their best efforts they sometimes become prey to predators.
