An Oriole sings with elation
Who got his fondest wish....
To finally reach its destination;
after waiting for the jelly dish
Since grackles are now resting
Tonight along with babies nesting.....
© Poetry by me AJP

The Common Grackles had been giving the orioles a hard time at the feeder chasing him
and other wild song birds away...the Grackles rarely touch the jelly dish but they would prefer
not having other birds compete with them at the feeder, regardless.. Tonight they took a much needed rest from their parenting duties at almost 6:00 this evening so that the rest of the birds can finally eat without getting harassed ...the light gets golden this time of the evening in more ways than one:)

The Grackles eventually settle down when their babies begin to forage for their selves leaving the nest and we see a softer side of their nature right before they leave to continue their migratory journey. I wonder if they will expect to have suet for their daily menu on their next stop...they also love to eat sunflower seeds:)
