Q: I am really into my wildlife photography but cannot afford a super zoom lens, I have a 300mm and am considering a teleconvertor. Has anybody had a experience with these and would you recommend them?

A: Do you know?

She came back this morning to the feeder before I had a chance to bring the containers out for the birds to be fed and it was just leaving here when I caught this quick shot. She especially loves suet and maybe it will be back later. I think it is either molting its feathers as it looks sparse around the neck..or else it might be a young Pileated Woodpecker...We normally don't see this species of woodpecker on the bird feeder this time of the year. The Pileated woodpeckers are considered the biggest of its kind.

Best View in Light box! Thank you!!!

So beautiful against the bright background light.. it wouldn't surprise me if she's a juvenile and might explain why she isn't skittish, too. Gorgeous portrait, Andrea!!
