I purchased my first SLR camera a few weeks before taking this photo. I did as much homework as possible before taking the camera on this trip. Being mesmerized by the lighthouse, I wanted to be able to capture its true beauty. The only way to do this was to shot it at sundown. There was never a convenient time to take this photo because we were always tied up at diner when the sun was setting. It just so happen that my girlfriend and I came down with food poisoning the last day that we were there. We were laid up in bed all day and unable to leave the room. The doctor paid us a visit and gave us some shots. We were about an hour away from sunset and I knew that this was my last opportunity to get the shot. So, I crawled out of bed, put on a hat, grabbed the camera and tripod, and made my way to the lighthouse. I took a series of photos as the sun was setting, using different focal lengths and aperture settings. After around 20 photos, I was confident that I had at least one keeper so I took my weak butt back to the room to sleep off the nasty food poisoning. This photo is special to me because it is the first photo that I was proud of. This place is special to me because it helped bring out the photographer in me, launching a lifelong journey into the art of photography.
