Outside My Room

Motel 66 on Route 66 in Needles, California - The middle of everywhere.
Needles became my home away from home for several hot days. The storm provided some welcome relief from the harsh sun. However, it passed quickly and all too soon the sun returned to its dominate position.
My room, although not much, was clean and provided cool air from an ancient rattly air conditioner. Its noise did not bother me, it told me the old unit was still doing its job. That noise kept me from panicking.
Needles is a very interesting town. In many ways it is a throw back to days long gone. Throughout the town are many interesting buildings and signs, after all it is Route 66. It was those fascinating surroundings and my camera that caused me to enjoy my stay.
Still, I was most pleased when I was able to return to my home.

I agree that these colors are so lovely and harmonious... great for surroundings.
I would have positioned myself so that the top of the pole in the lower left was gone and there was a bit more sky to the right... if, however, I could have! -

The middle of everywhere. What a fantastic line, Richard. I hope this is the title of your collection of pictures whenever you bind them next. Needles is a great starting line, or finishing line, for the alchemy of changing from one life into the next. How many people finally admitted to their criminality in stranded places like Needles? How many criminal resolved to go straight in motels such as these? Needles is a border of the self, and there is nobody at the post to deny you entry into the new you. You're free to come and go as you please; free to resolve yourself into change as many times as needed until you learn to settle on being you and nobody else. Wonderful evocative image.
