The dormant Haleakala volcano is huge on the south end of Maui, Hawaii. It's an all-day hike down onto the crater floor, which from the rim looks devoid of life. But we found flowers, tiny ferns, and even the rare SIlver Sword plant. This flower was an outlier in a small field of flowers. Taken around 1984.
