Alarmingly, the misuse of antibiotics is the evolutionary driving force causing the natural selection of antibiotic-resistant "superbugs", like Staphylococcus aureus. These strains are difficult to control and erradicate and often lead to life-threatening infections. In fact, antibiotic-resistant staph infections kill more people annually than HIV.
