Q: I can not see any of the photos everything is blank except for the front page. Anyone know why?

A: Do you know?

© mylatehope.comAnother photo taken from the same grounds as my noir entry, Tortured Souls Remain. The Ladd Center, originally named The Exeter School for the Feeble Minded, “cared for” over 5,000 mentally handicapped Rhode Islanders in its 83 year history. For the last 40 years of its existence, there were widespread rumors of physical and mental abuse of its residents. Because of this dark past, the decaying grounds are said to be haunted.

After walking around and photographing the abandoned structures, I turned around and looked back down Main Street. For some reason I loved the visual of the long road leading down to the power plant with it's vertical smoke stack. I know this isn't quite as over the top as many of my other photos are, but I still love something about this image.

Created using my 1950's AGFA Clack with almost 20 year (Dec 1989!) expired AGFA Chrome 100 RS Professional slide film cross processed with C-41. Scanned as a color negative with my Epson v700 Perfection scanner. No digital manipulation used, but I did select the "color restoration" functionality of the scanner to calm down the outrageous x-pro colors.

Hey, when did you take this? Was this taken on the road that leads to the water tower? I'm just drawing a blank on where you were standing to take this shot.
And is that a small light leak on the side there? I think it is. Damn, those tormented souls. They get in your shot EVERY time.

    Hard to resist, this image...!...
The neat contrasts: dark and wet road with the mature, softwhite snow at the shoulders. The stack continues the strong running lines of the road, and even got a line -within- the road that adds the expression here.

It evokes a sense of loneliness... probably what most of the patients felt as they looked down that road themselves.
