They are not carried loaded, but the soldiers, just kids, really, 18, 19, are always required to have weapons on them. The week accompanying the Americans, basically tourists, is a vacation to them, but the weapons are very real.

This is fantastic. The casual stance of this woman, who could be a teenager from just about any western country, and the equally casual way this weapon is slung over her back. Amazing!

Well, this is what happens when you have mandatory service. I have participated with the Israelis in joint execises, and yes...the hot chicks serve, too. What is amusing about this picture is the resemblance to the American teenage girl at the mall, but they have M4 rifles, and talk about the hot guys.

Is interesting the difference between the kids in Palestine and this are so small...opposite sides always touch at the end...
Interesting work. -

People are people. I think that no matter where I've been, the average person seems to have similar dreams and hopes, ideas of pleasurable activities, etc. I feel that a lot of the conflict is manufactured instead of instinctual.

I absolutely agree with Ian. I am travelling to Israel and the West Bank in 3 days and it's exactly this similarity between human beings that I would like to find during my trip.

Saw this before when I "Yeahed" the story--and had to come back. Love the cultural relevance of this shot...brilliant capture.

Paul, one of the things I find interesting is that you can't tell who is an American in this image and who is an Israeli. It's odd to me that middle america and the middle east can see so similar at times.
