The story claims the events of 1871 were the inspiration to Bob Marley's song, "I shot the Sheriff" (and more)
The short version (about the name of the Lake) is a few escape convicts in 1871 killed a Pony Express boy, a Sheriff and his Deputy.. The Convicts, eventually captured, were taken by a band of vigilantes and hung.. All this taking place around the shores of the lake (then known as Monte Diablo Lake.
