This is the meeting house of the local Maori tribe that calls Auckland home in a very special way. It's their 'Turangawaewae' Their place to stand. If you look under the tree you can see the tail of their waka or canoe slid in beside the fence.
I had to walk through a barrier designed to stop cars from parking here or using this tribal area as a thoroughfare during todays Waitangi Day festival. I couldn't go past the gate so this was the best shot I could get.
In the story A Place to Stand.
