The dark leaf is from the Dasheen bush. Called Taro, in Asia and Pacific Islands. It grows in very wet areas.
It has a starchy root something like a potato. The leaves are made into a thick soup. Called Callaloo/Kallaloo, its green and slimy. It is made with Okra, Salted Pig Tail, Salted Beef, Crab. Pound Plantin (similar to a banana), a pie and Fareen (dried cassava) can also be added.
Callaloo is particularly un-attractive ascetically, yet is delicious. -
