"america::america"
philadelphia::history::america.. early spring//samson st. downtown::standing out was the american flag blanket.. people walk past one another all the time::life isn't mercy.. mr. mr. "may i". america:america..
sleeping in sweat ::: sunshine in ones eyes ::: a corporate man the uncaring and wicked or maybe he's not a bad guy, works hard and honest :: raises a family caring loving and giving//the sun was just in his eyes..
This picture hangs in "alfa" a restauarant in downtown philadelphia, full of diversity.. The most asked question. "was this photograph staged???"
The answer is:: "no, it was not."
These two people have never met nor will they ever.. in march 2009 the man sleeping on the american flag blanket was laying on a vent at 16th and walnut trying to stay warm. A taxi cab was jackknifed and smashed onto the sidewalk, breaking his back and killing him..
In the street:dreams photo essay.

Michael Asaro said (18 Aug 2010):
I've got to comment on this photo. First of all it's excellent putting it mildly. Not only did you capture a slice of life but you incorporated great color harmony, saturation and nice dark shadows. You've clearly conveyed the rich and the poor. This photo also makes me
sad to know that the homeless man is unfortuantely in that situation for whatever reason, so you sympathize with him. I also get a sense of a stuck up gentlemen in a suit that's to good to even look at the man sleeping. We can also see that the man is cleraly holding his breath as his passes by the garbage containers the the homeless gentlemen. It makes you also wonder which stench is worse? Finally this photo says I would love to help that homeless man and get him into a suit put for now I'll just pray for him. I could go on and on but I think I've said enough for now. I love your photo I give this five-stars without question!

Michael Asaro said (18 Aug 2010):
It's Michael Asaro again. The body and facial language are excellent. I would publish this photo 5 col. in a heart beat. Your title also is very fitting. Even though we but live in America, unfortuantely it seems that we are divided amongst each other, be it color race or whatever. I just had to include these extra remarks. I apologize for the typos in the previous comments. I've been aphotojouranalist for 36 years now and when I see a good. No, let me say excellent photo, I know it. This would grace a magazine cover any day of the week in my opinion! Keep up the fantastic work and I hope to hear from you. Michael Asaro

Personally I think It's about class struggle. The man on the ground is us and the man walking by represents the people that control 93 percent of the wealth in this country. I think the flag in the picture is very symbolic in the as well. Perhaps for blind patriotism? Your picture made me think and that is what great pictures do. I would hope that most of the people that wrote three or four word comments would get more out of it. Thanks for the picture!
