The Imperial Valley

Southern California's Imperial Valley is located just north of Baja California. It is responsible for more than 40 different types of crops and commodities with a gross value of over one billion dollars annually. The area is farmed predominantly by migrant workers, and is also home to the infamous Salton Sea, California's only inland sea. The Salton Sea that exists today results from a man-made environmental disaster that occurred between 1905 and 1907, when improper management of irrigation routes from the Colorado River caused the river to flow unchecked into the Salton Sink for some two years. Now, the Salton Sea is home to many migratory birds. The present level of the lake is more or less maintained due to run-off from agriculture. Nutrients from fertilizer enter the sea and cause algae blooms, which, coupled with increasing salinity, result in frequent massive fish and bird die-offs. The Imperial Valley/Salton Sea area is also home to 10 geothermal energy plants known as the Geothermal Resource Area. These plants are run by CAlEnergy and produce enough electricity to power over 100,000 homes. The area is rife with controversy due to the chasm between age-old manual labor practices and forward-looking alternative energy solutions.

I really like your style. Both this and you're photo in the "fresh" theme do a great job of capturing the openness of the great outdoors, while bringing it back with the presence of man.

The composition is great, and I like the fact that there is a distant city in the far left. It adds to the effect, I think.
