The thick smoke turns your tears to acid in your eyes
From your nose, a constant flow of mucus moistens your lips
Your throat burns as you cough up the ashes
This landscape of perpetual burning plastic, paper, wood, cloth and metal is where people hunt for salvageable “treasures” through the debris with picks and rakes
They live and eat in a clustered community on the fringes of this surreal, hostile, environment
Disease, malnutrition and injuries are the order of the day
This is where the things no longer needed go
This is where the people we no longer care about end up
In the Tossed! photo essay.
