Shortly after moving in to our first house in 2002, a neighbor told us that the area's water was contaminated. Thyroid cancer was the main complaint in this neighborhood. It seems that JPL (NASA) dumped rocket fuel into the Arroyo Seco back when nobody cared and now the groundwater is hazardous. Lucky for us they had just started cleaning up the water when we moved in. We also have filters on all sources of water in our house. This is a photo of the Arroyo at the base of JPL.
