The fact that you have generated such emotion from comments says you've done your job as a photographer! Definitely a powerful image.

Whats any of this have to do with being 'cool' or relating to anyones opinion about meat?
What you're looking at is work, life, death and food...simple.
The photograph was taken to gross anyone out...it was taken to show a form of work that has been happening ever since man started to walk to earth.
Here are more from that set :

..and an interview about the photographs:

You don't have to like it..I honestly don't care. But it might be worthwhile looking at the reasoning behind it.

I think that all those people who are all like 'This is evil' etc. need to shut up and take a look around! This is happening everywhere, every minute of everyday! If you cant handle that or If you dont believe me, your an idiot, all Afflicted is doing is showing you, he isn't responsible! If you're all such hippies go live in a forest and never EVER reammerge! Rant Over!
Afflicted: Love your work, I love all the contreversy that surounds it, you show peoplee things they are to close minded to think is happening! Good Work, you should be commended!

Amazing work, amazing shots. I lean to the side of "Thats Life" but i guess thats cuz I'm just a realist. It seems easy enough to me. You don't like the fact that slaughterhouses exist? They have a word for where you belong... its the staple of the population aptly called "Vegetarians". Art doesn't HAVE to appeal to anyone. It translate a time, feeling, emotion, etc... This photo and the ones in the set very efficiently conjure up feelings and reflects a part of life that most people are sheltered from.
BTW... I take my steak rare

Read the article and checked out your site - fascinating work you do and interesting photos/aritcle. Although this image is not something that is attractive, it is an accurate account of reality and society. People often choose to forget that food doesn't 'show up' nicely packaged in the grocer's case.

I grant that this is a powerful image but we all turn a blind eye to things on a constant daily basis. Would it be justifiable of me to post crime scene photos and then insist that "it happens so deal"? If it was a dog being hit by a car would you all react so warmly (or really, coldly)? That too happens daily.

This hurts. I feel it in my stomach and heart.
I agree that it's a powerful and evocative shot but it really hurts to see this. It's good that people see this too. It is an incredible photo in all aspects.
I love pigs and own two. I can promise you if one would really meet a pig, meet with the heart, one wouldn't do things like this. One wouldn't even eat meat anymore.
I feel sorry for these two men actually.

Wow. This is a gut renching photograph, but you are so right. You are showing life, death, food for those who need to eat. It happens and you've documented it. Love it.

The photo is really horrible to look at but well captured. I agree that it is a fact of life & it does happen whether we see it or not & whether we like it or not. I also agree with Hector that it is inhumane. But don't shoot the messenger. Even the SPCA magazines sometimes document similar photos to get a point across. Photography isn't always beautiful, but it's meant to be thought provoking and emotive
