Hummingbird on Razor Wire

This male Anna's Hummingbird was guarding his territory -- a vacant lot overgrown with weeds and surrounded by a fence topped with razor wire. The lot was in downtown San Francisco. We push hard against nature in the city, though, and this was the hummingbird's last stand at this location. The vacant lot has since been turned into a parking lot.

Wow, this feels so strange. Almost too incongruous to be natural. And the tones and DoF on this really add to the coldness of the situation.
(That must be one tough hummingbird though! Bet he's got all kinds of tattoos and piercings underneath those feathers.)

this is an amazing juxtaposition of the delicacy and preciousness of nature against the strength and destructiveness of industry

Great comparison between the sharpness of the beak and wire. Works on so many levels.
