Taking Care Of Business

Approximately 4 million tons of garbage is collected each year in New Jersey and taken to landfills throughout the state. The landfills are a luxury this state can no longer afford economically or more importantly, environmentally. Most of these landfills have plumes of contamination under them that reach the water table and can migrate from there to affect a very wide area, sometimes a hundred miles or more from the site of the contamination. They are also huge breeding grounds for disease.
The obvious alternative to landfills are waste reduction and recycling strategies.
