Rooted in history
The land of these people are their life line from the past history of native american nations in torment.
Surviving and relearning new concepts of corporate laws that never existed for people of the reservation has proven to be a failure.
One example was a family that took the money to move into a town. They actually believed they where doing the best for their family. They bought a new home bought a car with the rest of the money and didn't understand why they had to pay for heat in the winter. The Elder when outside gathered rocks to heat in the living room. Consequently the heat from the rocks caused a fire and he burned his home down. The family was not allowed to move back to the Hogan they had left. The family stayed in the remains of their home and suffered the loss of a grandson from the bitter winter. and indoctrination into a modern society.
We as a nation, a government and industrial movement must learn to respect and allow people to be themselves and culture without imposing our will on them.
There has been too many misgivings and misunderstandings.
In the When mother earth trembled photo essay.

Now that is a real hogan. Not every one lives on, But just off the main roads you see homes, all some what dull. You get off the road where most keep there JEEP and BMW's from traveling over washboard roads. After a mile you see hogans. So good doing. Your images is not what I would call a weekend vacation or drive bye photography.

A successful image! The shadow of the photographer works well here.
As a viewer i was instantly drawn into the image through the shadow, which looks like a spirit reaching to enter the doorway into Hogan, lodge, earth womb...what ever this place is, it is used on special occasions, for the trail to the entrance is not trodden.
Your photo document is an excellent example of the artist's connection with environment, eye and shutter button contact in symbiosis...You are hunter of images...nice shot.
Another observation of merit is the clouds color gradations.... from dark to light.... as a viewer I have entered your image through the shadow, then into the mystery of the dwelling, up the stove pipe and into the clouds..but once into the upper white wisps, I am filled with memories of sage smoke, call back drums and turtle shell rattles...dancing with sky spirits.
This image is a fine example of your intuitive gift as photographer and with your writings accompanying the images validates you are Artist as Story teller....Namaste.....and BRAVO-!! -
