Is that really his name? My in-laws had a little dog called Schnitzel for years and years. He looks like a very nice dog :-)

actually, her name is mitzy. schnitzel is just kind of a nickname i have for her. she's a sweetheart - a rescue dog we adopted from the local animal shelter last september.

j, It is so wonderful that you adopted her. I bet she is really smart! What a great picture. She looks like she knows EXACTLY what you are saying to her :) I have an adopted German Shepard...his name is Eiko...he is HUGE! Congrats on a great dog and a great photo!

schnitzel is a peace of meat that you eat,
perpetrated a certain way in germany.
i wouldn't call my dog that.
    sorry
but he is very cute and do not eat him or her

ha! yes, 'slice' or 'morsel', often of veal. in this case, 'schnitzel' is intended as a term of endearment, not as food, per se. we silly humans often refer to beloved pets - even people - by food names: honey, cupcake, cookie, sugar, ...i'm sure there are more.
since her name is "mitzy", 'schnitzel' seems a logical, if slightly off-kilter lingual 'sound-alike'. particularly in a household like this one, in which yiddish words are thrown around like schmattes.
i can assure you that she is a beloved member of the family, and not on the menu! :-)
