  thanks, i won't now. and no i didn't use a filter, i was playing with the manual settings on my camera (basically getting to know my camera better). i was trying to go for a darker picture because flower pictures are usually bright and colorful. i wanted something a little more dramatic.

  another option is to open up the aperture and throw the background out of focus. you're right though, the flower pics with the dark tones are always a little surprising.
