Just after a snowmelt, I went for a hike. On my way to the trailhead, I noticed these leaves and the impressions or “stains” left on the sidewalk. Upon arriving home, I decided to see exactly what it was that made this occur through a little googling. If there are any "tannin experts" out there, let me know!
