"Faith consists in believing when it is beyond the power of reason to believe."

-Voltaire

This quote of Voltaire's is poignant in my life. I go to this church because it feels so right when I enter this particular structure. There is no iron hand asking where I've been if I haven't gone in weeks. There is no one telling me I must give money. There is no one beating me up because I have sinned. There is only acceptance, guidance and no questions.

I don't know exactly how to express what I believe. But I believe. And I have faith that good trumps evil. I have always had "a feeling" that there is a genuine purpose to our lives and a "oneness" with each other and earth and sky. There is a "higher power". Our universe is vast. The galaxies that exist are immense. The possibilities are endless. I believe that just because I've never witnessed a miracle, doesn't mean it's not possible.

"There is a balm in Gilead,

to make the wounded whole,

there is a balm in Gilead,

to heal the sinsick soul.

Sometimes I feel discouraged,

and think my work's in vain,

but then the Holy Spirit

revives my soul again."

"There is a balm in Gilead" - African-American spiritual

(Thank You to fellow JPG'er Glenn Buzbee for introducing me to this hymn.)
