This young woman was the featured dancer in a troupe of young boys and girls who were studying "Danzon," a Carribean style of dance with Cuban, African and French roots. They were performing for guests at Rancho Encantado, an eco-resort on the shores of Laguna Bacalar, The group focuses on the earliest forms of this dance, brought to the jungles of southwest Yucatan through the port city and capitol of Quintana Roo, Chetumal by early Spanish invaders and colonists. This performer was in her last year of public school and is heading off to Mexico, D.F., to study dancing in college.
