There was a TV show on Nickelodeon when I was younger called "Are you afraid of the dark" and one episode was about an evil painter who kidnapped kids by oil-painting them, trapping them forever into his creepy artwork. 18 years later my friends started gluing cut-out photos of themselves onto a thrift store painting. If I ever see a photo of myself on this painting, I will seriously freak out.

One of my favorite films is The Witches, there was a scene where a witch places a girl in a painting.

oh man, I totally forgot about the Witches! Anjelica Huston was terrifying in that movie, so great. I'm seriously going to rent that soon.

Are You Afraid of the Dark used to be my favorite show! Are you thinking of the episode where a woman privately teaches some pupils in painting and lets them finish unfinished works, and they become so involved in the work and once they sign their name, they become trapped in the painting forever? Also I adored the Witches... I think I'm going to watch that tonight now :-P
