Not far from Lhasa, at a ferry crossing in Tibet to Dorje Drak monastery, we drank Tibetan milk tea with a family. This man was there was there with us. So close to tourist centre Lhasa, now the field for freedom fighters, yet it was remarkable how remote it seemed. The big crowd leaves this place for what it is and the people seem to be less tainted by tourists and the Chinese rule.
But for how long? The smile on this man's face I will never forget.
Unfortunately my Tibetan was poor at its very best, so I'll never be able to tell his story, but hopefully his face will tell you more than I can.
