The writer of the message was assuming the message would go to a member of a couple. If it did, it might mean something. But the writer can't predict the audience. That's all. There isn't meaning in everything.

When I first started dating my (now, ex) boyfriend and we were "in love" he got that fortune when we went out to eat at a Chinese restaurant. I thought it was so cool at the time, but now it just depresses me... the fortune must have been wrong, he dumped me :(

wait, when you were eating alone, was there anything near you that did make you happy? or was there a mirror that perhaps your reflection was visible to you? and the cookie was mearly telling you that you are what makes you happy. or was there a neighbor you were fond of? think about that man.

One usually reads past the true meaning of what is said. Reread the fortune and realize that what it's really saying is that "In a list of priorities in your life, happiness is next (after) you." Then you'll realize that the fortune cookie was true, and that next to you, happiness is the next important thing in life. As for the "Stop Searching Forever" - it's probably referring to you looking for answers on a tiny piece of pre-written paper. =)

Happiness is Next to You in priorities in life. First you, then happiness.
