Kansas
I shot this photo on a storm chase in 2006. We were chasing a supercellular storm that split in two, which is rather common for such storms to do. We decided to go after the half of the storm that raced east. The storm quickly became a squall line -- which is basically a line of very strong storms that plow up winds ahead of it. They also tend to be very photogenic. When we finally emerged from the hail, my chase partner, Darren, noticed this rustic barn. We pulled over and shot this photo just before sunset. The light in the foreground isn't a flash -- it's the light from my Chevy Impala's low beams.
In the Storm Chaser photo essay.
