Inside the Church of the Holy Sepulcre (which is one of the best examples of people working to the same end not able to agree on anything...) pilgrims will sometimes carve their names or leave some sort of marking on the wall. Oftentimes they will stuff prayers to god right into the holes in the wall, like the one to the right of the cross carved in the lower right hand corner.
