My twin brother is a farrier and I spent the morning with him on his rounds. This is one of the many shots I took during the hot shoeing part of his job. Its such an old-school skill, with nearly everything done by eye, feel and experiance. Each shoe fitted perfectly, and not once did he use a ruler or any measuring device. It was amazing to watch.
(yes I have a twin... non identical ofcourse!)
In the The Art of Farriery photo essay.

It is an art - I ran into someone recently who said he was a blacksmith, then revealed he'd never put a shoe on a horse! Whatever.

Man, just _imagine_ one of 'em barn cracks back there, shoving light thru that smoke from behind! -

Very cool, and even cooler that it's documenting family and traditions.

@Natalie, Farras & Julie... thanks
@Bob... thanks, I noticed the smoke and light in this too and that is one of the main reasons why I liked it soo much!
@Nelson... I know what you mean, but if you called by brother a blacksmith to his face he would punch you on the nose! haha... aparantly they take it as quite an insult, haha!
@John... yeah the restricted light in and around the places he works makes it great for really cool lighting scenarios, although I am glad I took my tripod!
@Melissa... Thanks, most of my friends and me work in a boring boring office so its quite bland! However I do have some ideas... so we'll see! -
