Gen. Douglas MacArthur & Philippine President Garcia.
Old Soldier's Last Visit.
Assigned to shoot his arrival, I staked out my position on top floor of a four story building in Escolta, the old financial district in Manila. The general arrived at noon, and was scheduled to arrive at Escolta an hour later, but the seven kilometer drive from the airport was jammed with people, who kept blocking the motorcade to greet him closeup. I had selected Kodak Plus X for my film loaded in my Pentax camera with a 200 mm. telephoto mounted. I estimated the lighting would allow me to shoot at a 125th of a second at f.5.6 in the open shade between what was considered tall buildings. The motorcade arrived at dusk. I had to open up my aperture to f.3.5 and lowered the shutter speed to 60th of a second. I salvaged the negatives by force development in D 76 increasing time by 50%.
