WHEN JUSTICE DOES ITS PUBLIC PART
IT EDUCATES THE HUMAN HEART
THE ERRING HEART IN TURN
MUST DO ITS PRIVATE PART AND LEARN
Mark Strand
Poet Laureate 1991
April 4, 1968 I was 4 years old. I was playing in the kitchen when I heard my Mother and Grandma screaming and crying. Naturally I cried too though I didn't understand why. The evening news was broadcasting the assassination of Dr. King... part of me always remembered this as a dream until as an adult I asked Mom, who confirmed everything the way it was. That night people cried, some were angry. Now... I won't elaborate... But I understand some of those feelings...
On April 4, 2008 I discovered that this photo made Explore #200 on Flickr.
As a man who doesn't believe in luck or coincidence, I feel the warmth of this blessing in my heart. And so I dedicate my 32nd Explore photograph to the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
