Under a canopy of Pohutukawas, between the cliff and the water writhes a slim piece of road about 200 km long. It's the only main road. That car is on the other side of the road! There's a lane in between for people travelling in the opposite direction.
For the inexperienced driver it's a huge challenge to drive this route. But its beauty makes it very worthwhile.
