A Land Remembered

Pine Island Florida, 2006.

This is the Florida I want to remember....slow, quiet, laid-back, and peaceful...

...this is a rapidly disappearing scene....and I'm glad I got the opportunity to capture it in a frame.

    as does it mine, Nelson...
I am saddened every time I go and visit my home of 13 years to see the maddening expansion of what once was a pristine and beautiful natural wonder...
If you get the chance...read the book of the same name..."A Land Remembered" by Patrick D. Smith. It's locally written (Florida), but it really nails home the point...excellent historical fiction.

I agree, "A Land Remembered" is a great book on the "crackers" of Florida and the emerging spread of urbanization and its infringement on the Land. Although I cannot believe that you wouldn't title this not having known about the book already since both the book and your photograph are based in the same state. I'm an expatriate Floridian and I wish I were home. Thanks for the moment.
