A tall late 1800's loft building on Great Jones Street NYC was being demolished down to the second floor. Why? The bonus developers get for keeping part of a beautiful old building, which in its entirety was certainly more beautiful than the new building that is to go up will ever be...that bonus is added height allowed to developers, unsightly in a low rise historic area. This area is set to be declared a Historic Distric soon and there is a rush to destroy it by over-development of projects based primarily on greed.
