San German's Church
I live in San German, a small town on the west coast of Puerto Rico that at one time was the second must important town of the island, after the capital, San Juan.
The town was moved several times in the XVI century due to attacks by pirates, bucanners and carib indians. Finally it was settled in the hills of Santa Marta, half way from the coast and from inland. In the beginning it was called Nueva Salamanca and it was the cradle of most of the towns of the west coast of the island.
This church tower was toppled by an earthquake in 1918, the same quake that produced a great tsunami that my grand dad used to tell me stories about.
I got married on this church 27 years ago this June. I'm not much of a church goer, but this one holds mysteries and stories and you can milk them from its walls.
In the story San German, Puerto Rico.
