A modern office building constructed within an 1800s brick building, leaving as much of the older structure as possible & building the new office inside the available space of the older structure's framing, while recycling many of the bricks from the older building as possible in the new facility. The result is beautiful!
The space around the outer perimeter of the new building & the inner perimeter of the old structure is a courtyard where employees can relax. The older structure provides shading & the courtyard is filled with natural sunlight. The older structure also serves as a berm making the courtyard a peaceful place to gather thoughts, talk with a co-worker, or simply relax.
Why tear something down just to build something up? A common sense solution! We should all be so forward thinking! For that reason, this is also my "world of tomorrow" entry as more projects such as this will hopefully be a part of the future.

I would love to see more of this building. What a great idea. I was thinking about doing that for a studio. Just build a box on the inside of the old structure. I love the rustic feel.

Hey this is a really great way to "recycle" wonderful old buildings. I salute Columbus for their creative approach to preservation without smothering the building in ridiculous restrictions. I think old buildings like this can have a much longer and productive life with a bit of help and support from modern usages and construction techniques. Bravo, Columbus! Thanks for sharing this.
