Kilauea Rumbles
Big Island, Hawaii (2006)
We went on a sunset hike to check out the lava that was flowing down from Kilauea to the open sea .
Since January 1983, eruptive activity has been continuous along the east rift zone of this area. And because of this, Kilauea ranks among the world's most active volcanoes and may even top the list.
It's a perpetual transformation. This image *does not do justice* (I was only able to bring my tiniest camera) to the sight and experience to behold.

Jolinda, the temps were actually pleasant. It was late in the day and we were near the water so a good mix of heat from the volcano and cool breeze from the water. Id' say between 75-80.
You know, we also couldn't hear much. We went off and up the hill and followed the flow, tracing back to the source as high as up as we can. We stayed past dark and I'm telling you, it was outworldly! Best time to check it out because you can actually see the fiery glow through the cracks as you walk by and around them. A rush! -
