An extended group of friends who originated in a particular corner of the local university gets together on a reasonable regular basis to share the joy of comics.
It was noted a few years back that no-one really wanted to lend out their comics (bought at a premium in New Zealand as they are all imported by air). The problem being fear of damage. Comic Appreciation Day provides an environment where the joy can be shared whilst comics never leave the eye of the owner.
Rules are set. No comic enters the designated food area. All readers are requested to wash their hands prior to handling a comic.
Much fun is had by all. Sorts, snerks and chortles erupt at irregular moments around the room. Generally followed by comments such as "Which comic/series/bit are you reading?" Followed by "Oh yeah, that's a good bit"

I love this shot. It reminds of growing up and hanging out with my friends and reading 10 and 12 cent DC and Marvel comics. I am still an avid fan. I follow Fables, Fell, Justice Society of America (love the current irony in that name), 100 Bullets, Cat Woman and Batman. I am also a life long fan of anything by Will Eisner. Glad to see that the universal appeal of the comic holds to this day!
