Collision Course
Who's colliding with whom here? The two competing boats or the contrast between past and present.
The boat on the right has already completed its turn at the far end of the course while the boat on the left is just beginning its turn resulting in a near collision. The two boats did bump but that didn't deter the boat on the right from achieving victory in their heat.
It's all part of the fierce competition that is the sport of Dragon Boat Racing. The event held in Naha, Okinawa coincides with the national Golden Week festivities and marks the official beginning of the summer fun and festival season.
The large cargo vessel in the background provides an interesting contrast between the present mode of sea travel versus the past in the form of the dragon boats in the competition.
