Tribute for My Mother

She wrote a poem about her love for us in 1969, it was in the fall
I read it almost every day, where it's kept over my washer, hanging on the wall.

In it I've placed a photo,
taken by my Dad
It makes me feel good to look at it, even when life is sad.

We're on the beach, in autumn, my mom,my brother and me
We're standing in the sand, looking out to sea.

But our mother is smiling, arms folded, looking down at us,
With love and admiration, her demeanor providing much needed trust.

She was only eighteen upon my birth, yet wise beyond her years,
many unexpected changes were yet ahead
and she would shed too many tears.

Life doesn't always turn out the way we plan,
no matter the best of intentions, so we do the best we can.

She thinks that's what she did,
the best she possibly could.
But I know for who I've become, she did so much more than most would.

Though I don't always show it,
she means the world to me.
She's an amazing provider of unconditional love,
an incredible example of who a mother should be.
