Bannack, Montana.
Bannack was founded in 1862 and became the first Territorial Capital of Montana in 1864. It was a mining town for gold that was first found at Grasshopper Creek. From the 1860s to the 1930s, Bannack continued as a mining town with a fluctuating population. By the 1950s the gold business had dwindled and most folks had moved on.
The buildings are spectacularly old and visitors are allowed to wander through most of them. Rotted wood and peeling wallpaper are everywhere.
