Oy, These Kids With Their Crazy Hair & Their Leather
I was out on a little time killing jaunt in Paraibuna, the "county seat," waiting for some bureaucratic paperwork to be completed and saw these fashionistas sitting on their front stoop watching the world go by. Having a JPG theme in the back of my mind was just the push I needed to get beyond my usual reticence and ask if I could take a couple photos. I got the nod and the little gal inside looked out to see what was up. I assume she is wearing something equally sassy in there.
I tried this photo as a B & W and it's pretty good, reminiscent of those old WPA shots. It's definitely artier that way, but for now I like the even more documentary approach leaving the color in brings to the scene.
One of the things that's cool about living here in Brazil is the constant mish-mash of the old world overlayed with the mundane character of the new. This little city dates back to the early days of Portuguese gold exploitation of the 17th and 18th centuries and was one of the main stops along the 300-500 kilometer mule route from the mountains of Minas Gerais down to the ports at Santos and Paraty. Paraibuna was also a hub when the economy shifted and African slaves were imported to the region to create and farm plantations which supplied the burgeoning European coffee craze.

Thanks, I'm glad youse liked the shot. Really appreciate the comments and the critique. Tatiana: I tried cropping it but found I was to attached to the 'big picture', seeing all the details even into the corners. Also, I have the advantage of seeing it bigger and full rez so that may make a difference. I took a tighter shot but it didn't seem to give enough ambience. Doggie was on his own, no wrangler with me that day :-) Actually, I probably spent less than 30 seconds there, I didn't really want to be intrusive.
