The photos I selected from this shoot were almost entirely picked from "unstaged moments". Her willingness to be vulnerable in front of the camera was a heart breaking gift that speaks of the cost of this war and the toll on the families affected by it. His love for her is simply unreal.
Spending time with this couple and their family helped bring the price of democracy into sharper focus. I felt their separation viscerally, even before he left and feel very honored that they chose me to document their love.
