Q: I am really into my wildlife photography but cannot afford a super zoom lens, I have a 300mm and am considering a teleconvertor. Has anybody had a experience with these and would you recommend them?

A: Do you know?

Like a floating precious stone, the berg looked like it was made of glass.

In the Forms of Water photo essay.

    Good question Ryan -
I'm not a scientist but here's the story I know. Icebergs are basically layers upon layers of snow. As the snow is laid down air is trapped in the layers. The tiny air bubbles reflect white light, thus giving an iceberg it's white color. As the layers of snow build, their weight starts to compress the air, forcing it out of the snow layers. Those bubble-free layers have a blue tint - the same lighting effect that tints the sky.
Thanks for checking out my pix!

Here's some more on the Why blue? question. It's because of the natural light scattering characteristics of pure ice.
